The Opportunity
The International Program Advisor serves as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). The primary function is to process, track, update, report, and maintain immigration records under the Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS) and advise international scholars, students and exchange visitors on topics related to their immigration status. The International Program Advisor needs to be able to interpret and follow Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) rules and regulations. The Coordinator/Immigration Advisor's focus will include but not limited to J-1 scholar visa sponsorship (among other statuses such as H-1B, O-1 and TN visas) encompassing intake forms and immigration documents.
This is an Auxiliary (AUX) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for international scholars, students, exchange visitors, and their dependents. Interpret and process US Department of Homeland Security and US Department of State forms (such as DS-2019s and I-20s) for school transfers, registration, change of status, reinstatement, program extension, employment, practical training, travel, re-entry, and other immigration issues.
- Provide immigration advising and assistance to international scholars, students, and exchange visitors related to maintaining non-immigrant status (to include processing DS-2019s and I-20 updates) to ensure regulatory compliance for scholars and students.
- Update information and tracking of scholars, students, and exchange visitors through the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) SEVIS database. Update and record information in PeopleSoft. Ensure documentation from processed services and activities is stored and maintained in the appropriate records management systems. Collect and update immigration related information for dependents. Monitor compliance with health insurance requirements. Ensure the security and confidentiality of J and F records (among others).
- Submit monthly reports related to tracking international scholars, students, SEVIS and assigned projects. Follow up on SEVIS alerts to ensure that SEVIS records for scholars, students, and exchange visitors are updated. Initiate and maintain communication with the SEVIS Help Desk to resolve any issues that impact SEVIS records.
- Assist with processing employment visas to include statuses such as J-1, H-1B, O-1, TN, and green card petitions (encompassing intake forms and immigration documents).
- Consult and facilitate visa processing in collaboration with hosting departments by providing and collecting documents, intake forms, and conducting regular meetings. Facilitate workshops and presentations for new and continuing exchange scholars, students, and visitors at UCF. Collaborate with campus departments and local community organizations on issues and programs pertinent to international populations.
- May assist with admissions regarding international student programs at UCF as needed. This may include the distribution and collection of assessments, departmental publications, and information packages.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an academic or higher education setting.
- 3 years or more of experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
- Experience with SEVIS, including maintaining and updating immigration records.
- Experience advising on or processing non-immigrant visa categories (e.g., J-1, F-1, H-1B, O-1, TN).
- Experience using systems such as PeopleSoft or similar record management tools.
- Experience working within an independent role in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
