Position Description: We are seeking a dedicated Attorney with 3-5 years of experience in immigration law or a related field. The attorney will provide comprehensive legal assistance and representation to our clients. The Attorney will work in a team-like environment and will handle all phases of immigration, criminal, and family law cases from initial intake to final case disposition. The Attorney must possess a demonstrated interest in working with persons of diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and is licensed to practice law. The ideal candidate speaks English and Spanish fluently. In addition, the attorney should demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, an ability to work constructively with others, good judgment, ability to learn quickly, and work well independently and under pressure as well as in collaboration with other staff members. The Attorney’s written and oral communication, management of interpersonal relationships, and legal advice should reflect the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
- Client Consultations: Meet with clients to assess their immigration needs, provide legal advice, and develop strategies to achieve their immigration goals.
- Document Preparation: Prepare and review immigration applications, petitions, and supporting documents for various visas, green cards, work permits, and citizenship applications.
- Representation: Represent clients in immigration court proceedings, including asylum cases, removal defense, and appeals.
- Research: Conduct legal research to stay informed about changes in immigration laws, regulations, and precedents that may affect client cases.
- Compliance: Ensure that all immigration-related filings and applications are submitted accurately and comply with immigration laws and regulations.
- Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed about the progress of their cases and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of clients with immigration authorities, including the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Department of State.
- Court Appearances: Attend immigration court hearings, interviews, and meetings with clients and immigration officials.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of client cases, correspondence, and legal documents.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure the efficient handling of immigration cases.
- Continuing Education: Stay updated on changes in immigration law and attend professional development programs to enhance your expertise.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from any accredited law school in the United States.
- Admission to the state bar association and eligibility to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of any regulatory laws; experience in immigration laws is preferred but not required.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Three years of experience in immigration law.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish
