Role Description and Responsibilities
This is a full-time, on-site role for an Immigration Attorney located in the Washington DC-Baltimore area to work in our office in Fairfax, Virginia. The attorney will manage diverse immigration cases involving affirmative applications and defensive litigation. Additionally, the attorney may handle matters in criminal proceedings in Virginia. Responsibilities include:
• Represent clients before Immigration Court (primarily in Maryland and Virginia Immigration Courts);
• Research and draft motions and pleadings for submission in Immigration Court;
• Prepare applications for relief to submit to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration Court, and appellate bodies and courts;
• Engage in client interviews, meetings, and consultations;
• Communicate with clients, witnesses, and government attorneys and staff;
• Carry an active caseload under the supervision of experienced attorneys;
• Conduct legal research into various immigration, criminal, and domestic issues and prepare memoranda regarding complex legal issues;
• Coordinate all aspects of a client’s case, including client communication, relevant research, translation, drafting personal statements, preparing immigration forms, writing memos and briefs, drafting court motions and orders, and advocacy with law enforcement and other agencies; and
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge in Immigration Law, including affirmative applications, removal proceedings, and humanitarian based releif
- 1-5 years of legal experienceor demonstrated interest in criminal and/or immigration law preferred
- Strong interpersonal, advocacy, and client-relations skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary legal team
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with a State Bar (Virginia strongly preferred)
- Exceptional organizational and communication abilities
- Proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus
