Position Overview
Banks and Brower is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with at least one (1) year of experience practicing immigration law. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants hands- on experience, mentorship, and meaningful work serving immigrant communities.
Practice Areas
The associate will handle matters including:
- Removal defense before EOIR/Immigration Court
- Family-based immigration (Family-based petitions, Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, and Waivers)
- Humanitarian relief (Asylum, VAWA, U visas, T visas, SIJs)
- Naturalization and other benefits before USCIS
- Client counseling, case strategy, and court appearances
- It is possible for cross-practice areas as well if desired (criminal, family, personal injury)
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of immigration matters from intake through resolution
- Represent clients before Immigration Courts, USCIS offices, and other agencies
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and applications
- Conduct client interviews and prepare clients for hearings and interviews
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
- Maintain timely and accurate case documentation
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar license in any U.S. jurisdiction (Indiana preferred or eligibility to waive in)
- At least 1 year of experience practicing immigration law
- Experience with removal defense and family-based cases preferred
- Familiarity with humanitarian forms of relief strongly preferred
- Strong oral, legal research, and writing skills
- Excellent communication and client advocacy skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment as part of a growing team
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred
- Interest in helping build and shape a growing immigration practice
