Position Overview

Our established immigration law firm is seeking a skilled and passionate Immigration Attorney to represent noncitizens detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and placed in removal proceedings. This role requires courtroom advocacy, fast-paced legal analysis, and strong interpersonal skills to serve individuals facing some of the most urgent and complex immigration challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Represent detained clients in bond hearings, master calendar hearings, merits hearings, and related proceedings before the Immigration Court.
Prepare and file applications for relief from removal, including Cancellation of Removal, Asylum, Withholding of Removal, CAT, Adjustment of Status, and Waivers.
Conduct client interviews in detention centers and prepare affidavits, declarations, and legal briefs.
File motions to reopen, motions to terminate, motions for bond redetermination, and appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
Maintain regular communication with clients and their families, providing updates and legal guidance with clarity and compassion.
Collaborate with paralegals and legal assistants on case preparation and client support.
Conduct legal research and stay up to date on immigration law and policy developments.
Maintain accurate case records in the firm's case management system.
Occasionally assist with related federal litigation, such as habeas corpus petitions or stays of removal in federal court.

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in any U.S. state or territory.
Minimum 2 years of experience in immigration law, with direct experience in detained or removal defense preferred.
Fluency in Spanish (spoken) is required.
Excellent legal writing, courtroom advocacy, and case management skills.
Ability to manage a full caseload and work both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
Commitment to zealous advocacy and immigrant rights.
Willingness to travel to detention facilities and immigration courts as needed.
