Temp to Hire Immigration Legal Administrative Assistant (in-person)

The Legal Department of Pars Equality Center is hiring a Temp to Hire, Part-Time/Full-Time, in-person, Legal Administrative Assistant, Dari language required (Pashto a plus), to support our Pars Fremont office located in the Fremont Family Resource Center. Pars Fremont provides pro bono/low bono immigration legal services to Afghan new arrivals and low-income diverse community members in the Bay Area. Pars Fremont provides immigration legal services including but not limited to adjustment of status, affirmative asylum, family petitions and naturalization. The center operates on a clinic-based model-deploying the assistance of pro bono volunteers and Pars staff to conduct monthly immigration clinics/events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide administrative support to Pars staff, volunteers and participants during general office hours.
2. Assist in answering phone and email inquiries, scheduling of appointments by phone and in-person.
3. Maintain adequate communication and follow-up with clients, clinic visitors and volunteers.
4. Organize and conduct community on-site legal clinics and community education events.
5. Enter individual data into the agency’s database(s).
6. Ensure proper documentation/reporting of legal/grant requirements by way of reporting and use of Excel spreadsheets.
7. Draft documentation necessary to streamline our processes.
8. Oral and written translation of documents and material for both our legal work and operations from Dari to English/Pashto to English.
9. Keep track of office supplies and maintain inventory.
10. Maintain and organize the office and clinic spaces.
11. Collaborate with Pars staff and volunteers to ensure effective delivery of services.
12. Perform all other duties as needed and/or as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Fluency in spoken and written Dari required (Pashto language skills a plus)
- Excellent spoken and written English language skills
- College degree (Associates Degree will be considered)
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in an office/administrative setting
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Internet, Email (Outlook), Zoom and an ability to learn to use the Legal Data Management system (Cerenade/eimmigration)
- Strong self-initiated organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Professional demeanor with strong customer services skills
- Ability to pay strong attention to detail and manage multiple assignments
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented diverse work environment serving individuals from various cultures and backgrounds with compassion and diligence
- Resourceful, proactive problem-solving abilities
- Prior experience working in an immigration legal services agency is not required but preferred.
- Knowledge of social media outreach and resources.
- The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry and move) light to medium weights (objects) of 5-15 pounds
Salary: Commensurate with experience
