Solo practitioner seeks legal assistant with experience in immigration; must also be willing to do legal work in family and criminal law as well (training can be provided).
Position Description: The legal assistant position is dynamic. It involves reception and office management work (answering phones, scheduling, filing, organizing), case management, and interpretation. A large majority of the position also involves working directly on cases: filling out forms for clients, gathering evidence to support claims made in court, putting together evidence packets for the attorney, translating for clients during appointments, working with clients to get police reports, and coordinating with therapists and medical practitioners. Other responsibilities include writing letters to clients and translating client declarations, so strong English language skills and competency in English/Spanish translation are important.
The attorney would like to find an assistant who plans to remain at the position for at least a couple of years.
Qualifications:
*Strong English and Spanish language skills (verbal and written)
*Preferably a bachelor's degree or some college experience
*An interest in serving immigrant populations
*Ability to be sensitive to confidential information
*Strong communication and organizational skills
Job Type: Full-time
