Luqman Law is a Frederick, Maryland, law firm serving immigrant communities with immigration, criminal defense, and personal injury cases. We are hiring an Associate Attorney to manage an immigration caseload before USCIS, the Immigration Court (EOIR), and the Board of Immigration Appeals, with appellate work in the Fourth Circuit. You'll have real independence and the support of an experienced team, including in-house interpreters and translators, two paralegals, and full administrative and billing support.
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in removal proceedings, including Master and Individual Calendar hearings
- Prepare and file asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture claims
- Handle VAWA self-petitions, U visas, T visas, SIJS, and TPS cases
- Prepare family-based petitions and adjustment of status (Forms I-130, I-485, I-751)
- File I-601 and I-601A waivers, naturalization (N-400), and consular processing
- Draft motions and briefs consistent with EOIR and BIA practice manuals
- Conduct client interviews and hearing preparation, working with the firm's in-house interpreter for limited-English-proficient clients
- Optional cross-coverage of criminal-defense and personal-injury matters
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor and admission to the Maryland Bar, or admission in another U.S. jurisdiction with willingness to seek Maryland admission
- Familiarity with the Immigration and Nationality Act, Title 8 C.F.R., the USCIS Policy Manual, and EOIR/BIA practice
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- 1+ years of immigration law experience preferred; newer graduates with clinic or fellowship experience and EOIR exposure will be considered
