- Recent experience as an immigration paralegal at a U.S. law firm is required, with strong preference for experience in removal practice.
- This role is not suitable for new law school graduates, or those planning to attend law school.
- This role requires to be on site at our office in Columbus, Ohio. Remote candidates are not considered.
The Paralegal is required to apply basic knowledge of relevant laws and procedures to prepare immigration forms and documents under attorney supervision, prepare filings, communicate with clients, and work as part of a team to provide support to attorneys and clients.
Essential Functions
The following essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with reasonable accommodation.
- Maintain positive contact with clients and attorneys and observe confidentiality of client matters.
- Prepare petitions and applications forms, and support documentation related to immigration benefits, including filings with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review.
- Communicate with federal agencies in connection with acquiring immigration benefits on behalf of clients.
- Keep current on federal regulations as they pertain to immigration matters.
- Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours, consistent with the firm's attendance expectations.
Skills Required
Excellent organization and communication skills with close attention to detail. Ability to communicate professionally and to establish professional working relationships with other staff members and with clients. Sound knowledge of basic immigration requirements and procedures. Ability to handle multiple tasks, multiple concurrent deadlines, work well under pressure and independently.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience as an immigration paralegal at a U.S. law firm is required, with a preference for those with experience supporting removal practice. Experience outside of the U.S. is not considered.
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in paralegal studies or related field is preferred.
- Strong writing and communication skills is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office is required.
