Immigration Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Immigration Specialist will serve as primary contact for the international students and faculty; supervise the tracking of international students and scholars in the SEVIS system; advise international students and scholars on visa related issues; direct and facilitate WIU compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and policies; serve as senior immigration adviser and SEVIS trainer; and is responsible for the pre-enrollment advising and academic admission for international students. This position interprets U.S. immigration regulations: serves as consultant on F-1 and J-1 visas; facilitates and signs immigration documents as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) or Responsible Officer (RO). Duties of this position requires a candidate to be a US citizen or possess legal permanent resident status.
WORK LOCATION: Macomb campus
APPOINTMENT: As soon as possible.
MONTHLY WAGE: $3,810 - $4,191 (anticipated starting salary $3,810)

Job Requirements
- One (1) year (12 months) of responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment or international student admissions
- Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:
- Progressively more responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment, or international student admissions
- College coursework leading to a major in business administration, education administration, one of the social or behavioral sciences, a foreign language or one related to foreign affairs/service
- 60 semester hours equal one (1) year/12 months
- 90 semester hours equal two (2) years/24 months
- 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's degree equals three (3) years/36 months
Note: A Master's degree in Education Administration, Counseling, International Relations, International Development, Cross Cultural Communication or Communications meets Credential #2.
This position requires a candidate to be a US citizen or possess legal permanent resident status.
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. All varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Ohio Valley Conference.
