OVERVIEW:
The Manager, General Ledger makes a positive impact on the firm and the finance organization by timely and accurately recording all financial transactions, transforming complex financial activity into clear, accurate insights, strengthening the integrity of our reporting, and building smarter processes that help the entire organization operate with confidence and speed.
The General Ledger Manager reports to the Director of Accounting and works closely with department managers and internal stakeholders
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Motivate, inspire, and develop all team members through regular structured feedback and planning.
- Support team members’ achievement of individual goals.
- Monitor and evaluate performance and productivity for individual team members, as well as the overall team.
- Analyze leadership challenges, identify issues, and develop solutions.
- Adapt to changing circumstances, actively communicating and motivating the team through them.
- Actively communicate and distribute firm updates, planning, and goals.
- Develop, refine, and implement scalable processes and tools that improve the speed, accuracy, and consistency of accounting workflows and reporting, including automation or system enhancements where appropriate.
- Design and implement firm wide accounting policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and determine proper accounting treatment for complex or unusual transactions, using relevant U.S. GAAP guidance, company policy, and the underlying business purpose to ensure accurate and compliant reporting that aligns with cross-functional inputs (FP&A, operations, tax, etc.)
- Lead the monthly close, annual audit, property tax and insurance renewals processes, and other initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with the other finance department staff to support overall department goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance or relevant study.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in GL accounting in a professional service or customer service environment.
- High proficiency with accounting and finance tools and concepts, including ERP and reporting systems, and MS Excel.
- Strong accounting knowledge with strong emphasis on internal controls and accounting fundamentals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex data in a clear, concise manner.
- Great customer service attitude and approach.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with operational teams and build effective working relationships both internally and with external service providers.
- Excellent planning, organization and writing skills, including an ability to present and persuade others based on analysis of issues
- Adept at inspiring, influencing, and motivating individuals and groups to achieve results.
- Results-oriented, able to prioritize, and achieve results through others.
- Demonstrated, progressive track record of success leading high performing teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to maintain a sedentary position for up to 90% of the work day
- Able to type and to grasp, grip, push and pull file drawers and doors
- Able to walk and climb stairs or use elevator to coordinate with other departments
- Able to bend, stoop, kneel and/or stand to access files and documents
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs. of files and/or boxes
