Fast growing criminal defense firm in Austin, Texas hiring a Spanish speaking Immigration Attorney. Fluency in Spanish is required. The Attorney must be able to read, write, and communicate in the Spanish language at a professional level.

The Firm is headed by a former Assistant United States Attorney with extensive state and federal trial experience. The Firm mainly works with Spanish Speaking clientele and mainly practices in central Texas (Travis, Hays, Williamson, Bastrop, and Caldwell). The candidate will handle mostly immigration matters. Ideal candidate will have experience in deporation defense cases as well as other areas of immigration law. However, candidate will also be expected to take on some criminal defense cases. Experience in criminal defense is not required.

This is a great opportunity for an immigration attorney looking to gain some experience in criminal law. Immigration attorneys with no experience in criminal law will be mentored and trained by experienced senior associates.

Ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

Experience - 5+ years of immigration law experience (strongly preferred). Experience with deportation defense cases is required. Experience with U-Visa, T-Visa, VAWA, and Asylum cases is preferred. Other relevant experience will be considered.

Confidence – Associate must be comfortable in a courtroom and unafraid to take on challenging cases.

Willingness to Travel – Deportation defense cases sometime require travel to detention centers around Central Texas, including Hutto and Pearsall.

Duties:

Review evidence and perform further investigation to prepare client defenses;
Appear in court for bond hearings and master calendar hearings;
Communicate effectively with clients, judges, and prosecutors;
Issue spot and develop strategies leading to efficient resolution of cases;
Handle criminal law matters;
Draft pleadings and present facts, statements of law, and arguments clearly;
Travel mainly to Williamson, Bastrop, Hays, Caldwell, Bexar, and Travis County for Court; occasional travel to other counties may be expected.
Manage their own caseload.
