Bretz & Coven, LLP — a nationally recognized NYC-based immigration law firm — is seeking an experienced and ambitious Immigration Litigation Attorney to join our growing team. Founded in 1994, we have built a powerful reputation for representing non-citizens in complex removal defense, criminal-immigration (crim-imm) matters, waivers, and federal litigation. With a team of 40+ staff, including 5 full-time and 3 part-time attorneys, our firm offers the resources and mentorship of a deeply experienced practice — and a rare chance to step into a long-term leadership role.
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in removal proceedings before EOIR
- Prepare and litigate applications for relief: asylum, CAT, cancellation, waivers
- Draft motions to suppress, motions to terminate, and other defensive strategies
- Litigate bond motions and habeas petitions in U.S. District Court
- Prepare BIA briefs and petitions for review in federal circuit court
- Conduct Padilla consults and advise on crim-imm consequences
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff
- Contribute to strategic firm development and long-term planning
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of direct immigration court experience (Required)
- Licensed to practice law in New York or New Jersey (or able to waive in immediately)
- Federal court experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Spanish or another foreign language preferred
- Deep understanding of removal defense, waivers, asylum, and crim-imm law
- Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- A collaborative team player with leadership potential
- Desire to grow into partnership and eventual succession of firm leadership
