Davis & Associates is looking for a technical para-professional in the field of immigration law who will serve as a paralegal. The successful candidate will assist with legal requests for the firm and staff attorneys, ensure that project/department milestones and goals are met, and will adhere to the approved budgets.
Major Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in preparing and filing various immigration forms, including applications for relief from removal, asylum applications, affidavits, BIA appeals and detainee cases.
- Coordinate with attorneys on special requests or complex projects.
- Promote efficient and optimal utilization of paralegal knowledge and ensure adequate knowledge transfer/sharing.
- Prepare and organize case files, maintaining accurate records and documentation throughout the legal process
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates on case progress and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Prepare and file complete paperwork in a timely manner, keeping track of applications in Docketwise system of record and ensuring all bases are covered.
- Monitor case deadlines and ensure timely submission of all required documents and filings.
- Assist in client intake and provide exceptional client service throughout the immigration process.
- Stay updated on changes in immigration law and policy, particularly related to EOIR and removal proceedings.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide/update adequate Checklists and Questionnaires for each process.
- Meet deadlines for all cases, escalate when appropriate, and use time effectively and productively.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical case files, ensuring all documents are filed accurately and are accessible for team members.
- Conduct thorough document reviews and analyses to identify potential issues and advise attorneys accordingly.
- Serves as an escalation party for all complaints and dissatisfied customers.
- Schedule and conduct client meetings, interviews, and consultations to gather relevant information and documents.
- Follow the instructions and guidance provided by the Lead Paralegal to ensure consistency and accuracy in case handling and documentation
- Together with the Lead Attorney and Lead Paralegal handles all high-priority tasks with an external deadline to confirm compliance in those matters.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School required, Paralegal Certification or Bachelor's preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an immigration paralegal, specifically in EOIR and removal proceedings.
- Has extensive knowledge of legal immigration processes
- Ability to foresee and propose process improvements
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a must.
- Embraces fast past and thrives in team-oriented environments
- Must have people skills required to work with clients who are anxious and distressed
