Job Overview
The office of Second District Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento is seeking a motivated and the experienced Part-Time Legislative Affairs & Immigration Policy Analyst to provide essential support in analyzing federal and state legislation and its impact on the County and Second District community. This role involves building relationships with state and federal legislative offices and collaborating with stakeholders in the immigration community to craft policy recommendations. Additionally, the position will require hosting community events, monitoring immigration issues, and developing initiatives to support immigration policies.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant experience and a strong understanding of policy analysis, legislative processes, and immigration policy. The position requires an independent, proactive individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate compassion and commitment to community-driven outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct in-depth policy analysis and research on state and federal legislation, with a focus on its impact on Orange County and Second District residents.

Monitor legislative activities, track bills, and provide detailed summaries and actionable recommendations.

Prepare policy memos, talking points, and briefing documents.

Build relationships and collaborate with legislative offices, community groups, and non-profits to advocate for policy issues.

Support the development and execution of immigration-related initiatives and policy proposals.

Collaborate with team members to ensure project goals are achieved, offering support and assistance as needed.

Be flexible and ready to step in when extra help is required to meet team objectives and deadlines.

Provide administrative and research support, while actively contributing to special projects that align with and further District 2 strategic priorities.
Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in policy analysis, legislative affairs, or a similar field.

Strong understanding of immigration policy and the legislative process at both the state and federal levels.

Robust research, writing, and analytical abilities.

Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly and concisely.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Experience in a political or governmental setting preferred.

Ability to connect with diverse individuals from various backgrounds and professional levels.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Collaborative and willing to support team efforts to achieve overall goals.

Self-starter with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

Must be able to commute to the office located in Santa Ana, CA.
- This is a 100% in-person part-time position requiring 20-30 hours per week with potential weekend hours.

The role is based 100% in-person at the Santa Ana office.

Compensation: $25-$35 per hour, depending on experience.
