When’s the last time you woke up excited to go to work as an immigration attorney?
We all have tough days, especially in the field of immigration law, but wouldn’t it be amazing to work at a firm that values you, respects you, and helps you grow professionally, all in a casual but hard-working office environment?
Blaker & Granet LLP, an LGBTQ+- and woman-owned immigration law firm in Century City, LA, is looking for an immigration attorney with two to six (or more) years of business immigration experience to join the firm in a hybrid role that has a salary range of 115K-140k.
As an attorney at this boutique firm, you will not be just a cog in the wheel–you’ll be poised to have a major impact on the firm and its clients.
More About You and What You’ll Do
You have at least two years of experience preparing and overseeing TNs, E-2s, E-3s, L-1s, O-1s, H-1Bs, I-130s, I-140 EB-1A/EB-1Cs, and PERMs, to name a few. You have a strong foundation in employment-based immigration law but you know that there is always more to learn.
And learn you will. This firm will help you grow. You won’t be siloed or put in a pod that only cranks out one case type. You will be responsible for the full case lifecycle of complex NIV, IV, and PERM cases from initial case review to preparation and filing with government agencies including USCIS, DOL, and the DOS.
You will maintain your own case load as well as oversee the work of team members.
You will be client-facing and respond to calls and emails on a daily basis. You must be comfortable communicating with individual and corporate clients and providing important legal information in clear language.
When you’re ready, you will lead consultations with new clients where you’ll be expected to build rapport and trust, ask insightful questions, and explain the complexities of nonimmigrant and immigrant pathways. You’ll also be able to “close the deal” and convert prospective clients into paying clients.
With guidance and mentorship from the partners, you will be encouraged to take initiative and build a book of business. This role will be ideal for an attorney with an entrepreneurial mindset who is eager to learn business development and attend networking activities on behalf of the firm.
What Else?
The firm uses BlueDot as its case management system, and you will need to oversee and update information and workflows on a daily basis as well as ensure that team members working with you do the same.
You will also help oversee the work of legal assistants and paralegals and train them on specific visa types, firm practices, and workflows, as well as provide meaningful feedback to them.
A positive attitude and openness to feedback will be key to your success, not to mention a passion and a deep drive to help immigrants achieve their dreams to live and work in America.
The Vibe is Both Casual and Intense
The work is at times high volume and, let’s be honest, stressful with tight deadlines. While you will excel at performing autonomous work in a fast-paced environment, you will be supported by encouraging partners who provide training when needed, how-to guides, and are always available to answer questions and celebrate your wins.
And you can wear casual clothes to the office.
You will also likely at one point find yourself in a discussion about which Taylor Swift album is the greatest and/or why Jean Smart in Hacks is so brilliant. And, let’s be honest, there will probably also be talk about why Love Is Blind is such compelling television.
Pay Range and Benefits
The firm is dedicated to providing quality work/life balance to team members as well as providing competitive pay and a strong benefits package:
- Salary range: $115K to $140K per year
- Health insurance
- Paid vacation and sick leave
- 401(k) with matching employer amounts
- Monthly staff lunch
- Paid parking at the Century City office
How is Blaker & Granet Different?
The firm is casual in tone, attire, and vibes, but not casual about the professionalism they show to their clients and the hard work that goes into their cases. The firm’s clients come from a diverse range of industries including entertainment (film/TV/new media/music), architectural design, telecommunications, tech, apparel, and engineering, to name a few.
Partners Stephen Blaker and Jacki Granet treat team members like adults who have autonomy over how they handle their tasks and cases. The partners aim to be coaching-style managers where mistakes are treated like learning opportunities instead of ways to reprimand team members.
The firm is supportive and welcoming, and the partners are not only dedicated to winning cases for their clients, but also making sure team members thrive in their professional life.
