Are you ready to have your hard work as an immigration paralegal respected and valued?
You show up every day, give it all you’ve got, and have a deep sense of mission as you manage humanitarian and family-based immigration cases for vulnerable clients.
But maybe you've worked at a firm that doesn’t appreciate the skill, grit, and talent needed to be a successful paralegal.
Jaskot Law in Baltimore is looking for a Spanish-speaking Immigration Paralegal with at least 3 years of experience in I-130s, SIJS, VAWA, and T and U visas to join their team and work at a firm where paralegals and staff members are seen as equal to lawyers as employees but with different job tasks.
Of course, that doesn’t mean paralegals give legal advice nor are paralegals expected to do the work of attorneys. Paralegals at the firm manage cases under the supervision of attorneys and provide invaluable help in case preparation and client communications.
Most importantly, paralegals and staff members are celebrated for both small and big wins and treated as critical and valuable members of the team. The firm also has an innovative bonus structure where high performers are rewarded.
Here are the important details about the role:
- Salary range: 60k to 80k per year.
- Bonus Structure: Up to 20% of base salary annually with clear and reasonable goals determined on a monthly basis.
- Benefits: 401(k) with a matching amount, PTO, health insurance (firm pays 50%), dental, vision, and life insurance.
- Schedule: 4 Days in Office, 1 Day Remote (9:30am-5:30pm).
- Language Requirements: English/Spanish bilingual fluency or proficiency.
- Case Types You Will Work on: Family-based immigration (I-130, I-485, consular processing), naturalization, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), Asylum, and VAWA, U, and T visas.
- Career Path and Professional Development: This is not a dead end job. The firm helps their team members grow as legal professionals in their skills and knowledge and also provides opportunities for promotions.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
As an Immigration Paralegal, you’ll help prepare applications and petitions using the latest immigration technology and AI tools, file cases with USCIS and respond to RFEs and NOIDs, update the case management system, respond to clients in a timely and caring manner, and support attorneys as needed.
You’ll work efficiently with a high level of accuracy all while being absolutely obsessed with the details. Like triple-checking obsessed. You know what we’re talking about.
High performers at the firm are:
- Organized and Self Starters: While your work is supervised and overseen by attorneys, you’ll have ownership and autonomy in managing your work to ensure it’s completed on time and free of errors. Founding partner Jared Jaskot and attorneys at the firm mentor, support, and guide staff members, but they hate to micromanage. They won’t be hovering over your desk checking in multiple times a day to make sure you do your work.
- Excellent Communicators: Clients often struggle to understand the complex processes performed on their behalf. You’ll assist attorneys and staff with helping to communicate important case details to clients primarily in Spanish over the phone, email, and at times in-person.
- Empathetic and Emotionally Resilient: The firm often represents clients who have experienced trauma. This requires a strong dose of empathy and understanding. You know how to manage the emotional challenges that come in dealing with clients' situations. Team members also support each other through the difficult moments that come with representing clients who have suffered from trauma.
- Open to New Tech and AI Tools: The firm is known for its use of technology and AI in every “nook and cranny” of the office. (The firm often gets access to new technology in the beta phase). You love new technology and want to incorporate it into all areas of your immigration work to improve productivity and serve clients.
- Excited about Non-Traditional Firm Leadership Structure: The firm is led by founding partner Jared Jaskot and executive director Sarah Ochoa. You’ll work closely with Jared and the attorneys at the firm and also with Sarah who directs the operational management of the firm.
