Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an associate Immigration Attorney at The Law Office of William G. McLean III. The Immigration Attorney will be responsible for handling immigration cases, assisting clients with visa applications, staying updated on immigration laws and regulations, and advocating for clients in removal proceedings. Attorneys who have practiced a high volume of family-based and humanitarian-based immigration law preferred. Most common cases are immediate relative and preference category relative adjustment of status and consular processing. Affirmative and defensive asylum cases have become far more frequent in recent years and are expected to gain popularity overall in the near future. Humanitarian cases, such as U visas, parole in place, DACA, VAWA, SIJS, and advance parole, make up a considerable part of the office's portfolio. Litigation, like hearings on the merits and master calendar hearings in removal proceedings, appeals, and writs of mandamus, is less common but still a part of the job. Less emphasis on employment-based immigration cases, but open to grow into these quickly. Illinois-licensed attorneys preferred because a small part of the office is the occasional criminal, family, or tax law case that is usually linked to the immigration case. The associate Immigration Attorney will work closely with Attorney McLean on all new and ongoing cases. Most important quality is aggressiveness. We take on hard cases, do the work right, and win.

Qualifications

Immigration Law and Legal Issues expertise
Experience in handling Visas and Immigration cases
Strong understanding of Immigration Issues
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Admission to any state bar (required) and licensed to practice law in Illinois (preferred)
Fluency in Spanish required
2+ years experience preferred but willing to train new bar passers with immigration clinic experience.
