James Immigration Law is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Immigration Attorney to join our team.

Above all, we're looking for the right fit: an attorney based in Ohio with a genuine background in immigration law. The specific practice area matters less to us than finding someone local who is sharp, dedicated, and ready to grow with the firm — we'll shape your responsibilities around your existing experience, skills, and interest, whether that's in removal defense, business immigration, family-based immigration, humanitarian visas, or the U.S. citizenship process.

Being local to Ohio allows you to cover in-person immigration court hearings and USCIS interviews within the state, in addition to handling matters remotely.

We have a particular interest in candidates with experience in business immigration law (PERM labor certifications, H-1B, L-1, and other employment-based petitions) or removal defense, but we welcome applicants from any immigration background — family-based, humanitarian, or otherwise — who are ready to expand their practice with our support.

The role requires managing a full caseload, maintaining direct client contact, and collaborating with the legal team to develop strategic, compassionate, and culturally sensitive legal representation. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is essential.

Core responsibilities across all practice areas:

Analyze complex legal issues and develop case strategies tailored to individual clients.
Conduct thorough legal research on immigration statutes, regulations, case law, and evolving policies.
Draft legal briefs, motions, petitions, affidavits, and other supporting documents for submission to immigration courts, USCIS, and other relevant agencies.
Maintain clear, empathetic, and proactive communication with clients throughout their case.
Manage a full caseload with strong organization and attention to deadlines.

Depending on your background and area of focus, this may also include:

Representing clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and ICE, and advocating for relief such as asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, and waivers.
Preparing and filing employment-based petitions and labor certifications (PERM, H-1B, L-1, and similar) and advising employer and individual clients on business immigration strategy.
Representing clients during USCIS interviews and other agency proceedings.
Meeting with clients at detention centers for case strategy or testimony preparation, where applicable.

We'll work with you to identify which of these areas fits your experience and interests, and provide training to help you build skills in new ones.

Requirements:

Education: Legal degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience practicing immigration law. Experience in business immigration or removal defense is of particular interest, but we welcome candidates from any immigration practice area — family-based, humanitarian, or a mix — and will provide training to help you grow into new areas of our practice.
Location: Must currently reside in Ohio, in order to cover local immigration court hearings and USCIS interviews in person as needed.
Skills: Full professional fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written); strong legal writing and oral advocacy; excellent organizational skills; familiarity with USCIS and/or EOIR processes as applicable to your background.
Bar: Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing.
Other: Willingness to travel as needed for your caseload.

Work Environment

This position is remote, open to candidates who reside in Ohio, so you can cover in-person hearings and interviews at Ohio courts and USCIS offices while handling the rest of your caseload remotely. Technology is used extensively in our practice; training is provided, but you'll be expected to adapt to new and changing technology.

Salary

Full-time position with a salary of $100,000–$140,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This position offers direct employment with the firm, including a comprehensive benefits package:

Schedule

Working hours are flexible within a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. There may be occasional requirements for after-hours work depending on caseload demands. We encourage employees to maintain a healthy work-life balance, with evenings and weekends typically reserved for personal time.
