New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), a community-driven civil rights organization, seeks a full-time Legal Advocate and Data Management Coordinator.

About the Role

The Legal Advocate and Data Management Coordinator will provide support to NYLPI’s legal work and coordinate the organization’s data management. Approximately 70% of their time will be spent performing paralegal and other advocacy work and assisting with coordination of NYLPI’s program work. The remainder of their time will be spent on data management, including NYLPI’s case management and data collection systems, and providing support as needed to NYLPI’s administration team.

Legal Advocate core duties include:

Help with the preparation of legal documents.
Assist with research, testimonies, and memos in support of NYLPI’s program work.
Participate in preparations for court appearances, depositions, and mediations.
Support client work by joining meetings, gathering information, and handling logistics.
Support the coordination of NYLPI’s work across program areas.
Help maintain SharePoint files, including dockets.
Provide technical assistance, including proofreading, formatting, and creation of spreadsheets, tables, and graphics. 
Assist with the preparation and tracking of record requests.
Lead implementation of NYLPI’s Language Access Policy, including onboarding and training staff and interns.
Attend and support in-person events.

Data Management Coordinator core duties include: 

Train staff on case management and data collection systems and provide ongoing support and consultation.
Compile data reports for internal tracking, external reporting, and fundraising. 
Manage NYLPI’s timekeeping systems for billable litigation matters and lobbying.
Partner with key staff to implement improvements in our programmatic workflow, data collection practices, and compliance systems.
Partner with other staff members and supervisors to ensure that NYLPI’s systems collect robust information on NYLPI activities and outcomes.

Administrative Team Support includes: 

Coverage, as needed, of phones, intake, mail, data entry, and in-office support.
