About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Immigration Paralegal / Legal Clerk to join our team and become our company's registered California Immigration Consultant. This is a client-facing role overseeing daily case matters, preparing USCIS forms and supporting documentation, and helping clients navigate immigration processes from start to finish.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily client matters and maintain organized, accurate case files
- Draft and prepare USCIS forms, petitions, and supporting documentation on behalf of clients
- Draft pleadings, petitions, and briefs for California court matters as needed
- Guide clients through complex immigration processes with clarity and professionalism
- Coordinate deadlines, manage document collection, and keep case workflows on track
- Maintain compliance with California's Immigration Consultant regulations (Business & Professions Code Ch. 19.5) — including staying strictly within the scope of permitted (nonlegal) assistance
- Serve as the company's registered Immigration Consultant of record with the CA Secretary of State
Required Qualifications
- Must be based in Sacramento, California (required for background check/registration logistics)
- Law degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent legal training and experience
- Prior experience in a fast-paced legal or immigration services setting
- Strong written communication skills — comfortable drafting forms, petitions, and client correspondence
- Must be able to pass a California Secretary of State background check (no felony conviction, no disqualifying misdemeanor, no undisclosed arrests)
- Good personal credit score — required for approval on the $100,000 surety bond the company will sponsor as part of your registration
- Highly organized, calm under pressure, solutions-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages relevant to client base)
- Experience specifically with USCIS filings (family-based petitions, naturalization, adjustment of status, etc.)
- Experience in Bay Area or similar immigrant-serving community
