ORGANIZATION HISTORY AND MISSION
The MinKwon Center for Community Action was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community. Since our founding, we have made a profound presence through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter rights, and cultural awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient residents.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to fill a position as a temporary Paralegal. This is a full-time, one-year position - an extension of the position will be subject to the availability of additional funding and satisfactory performance.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct comprehensive immigration screenings to assess eligibility for services and legal benefits and answer client inquiries.
- Assist staff attorneys with immigration applications and cases.
- Conduct legal research and drafting of supporting documents for cases.
- Process immigration-related correspondence and manage routine client communications.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date notes in case management systems, and in physical and electronic files.
- Work with MinKwon’s development staff on immigration grants deliverables and reporting.
- Provide ongoing administrative and operational support to the immigration legal services team.
Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following:
- Interest and experience in working with immigrant communities
- Expertise and experience in immigration law
- Proficiency in a second language
- Ability to manage a diverse and high caseload and deadlines efficiently with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well both independently and in teams
- Strong commitment to public service; non-profit experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum required qualifications for this position include the following:
- Chinese and/or Spanish fluency is required.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and conducting research.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and with limited English proficient communities.
- Experience with data entry.
