Job Details
Primary Position Function/Summary
Provide advising support to international faculty, staff, and scholars and their host/employing departments on matters related to immigration and visa regulations. Contribute to initiatives that support the University’s international faculty, staff, and scholars. This position places a special emphasis on expertise in immigration advising, related University policies and procedures, and production and knowledge of DHS and DOL forms.
Statement Of Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate and process immigration document requests from university departments, staff, and scholars by serving as Alternate Responsible Officer for the University of Illinois J-1/J-2 program and preparing and filing petitions with the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services related to H-1B, TN, and E-3 visa applications.
- Contribute to unit and University initiatives, procedures, and projects which support international faculty, staff, and scholars and department contacts (such as newsletters, webpage content, forms creation, committees, etc.).
- Advise university department contacts on processes and procedures related to obtaining and maintaining visa statuses for international faculty, staff, and scholars.
- Advise international faculty, staff, and scholars on immigration and visa regulations, university procedures, and acclimation to the university and community environments.
- Process the results of data extractions from the University database, ISSS database, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SEVIS system. Identify faculty, staff, and scholars requiring specialized follow-up in order to maintain valid immigration status through departmental reporting or other University-related procedures to comply with federally-mandated reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One year of accumulative education, training and/or work experience within international student or scholar affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill ARO duties.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

Appointment Information
This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The salary for this position is competitive and based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity within Illinois International. The budgeted salary is $48,500.00.
Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays, 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year.
Health insurance is available to employees (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents), required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans. Newly hired employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to this deduction.
