The Immigration Specialist provides direct support to immigrant clients navigating the naturalization and immigration process. This role involves assisting with citizenship applications, conducting eligibility screenings, preparing clients for USCIS interviews, facilitating workshops, and maintaining accurate case records. The specialist works closely with program staff to ensure high-quality service delivery and compliance with grant requirements.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct client interviews to determine eligibility for naturalization and other citizenship-related immigration benefits.
- Assist clients in completing and submitting naturalization applications (Form N-400) and related USCIS forms accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist in preparation of cases such as Adjustment of Status, Removal of Conditions, Family Petitions, Consular Process, U-Visa, VAWA, and Waivers.
- Prepare clients for USCIS naturalization interviews by providing education on the process, practicing interview questions, and explaining required documentation.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case notes, track application status, and update electronic case management systems regularly.
- Facilitate citizenship workshops, study groups, and community outreach sessions to educate participants on the citizenship process, civic responsibilities, and rights.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation required for grant compliance and program evaluation.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, USCIS representatives, and other stakeholders to support program goals.
- Stay current with changes in immigration laws, USCIS policies, and naturalization procedures through ongoing training and professional development.
- Perform other tasks as delegated by the program supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Legal Studies, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience providing citizenship or immigration-related services, including direct client interaction and application assistance.
- DOJ Accreditation preferred or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
- Strong understanding of USCIS procedures, eligibility criteria, and related immigration benefits.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal information clearly and sensitively.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
- Empathetic, client-centered approach with cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse immigrant populations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for workshops or community events.
Salary range: $48,000- 52,000/year.
