Melick & Porter is seeking an IT Manager to support their organization-wide operations, based out of their Boston, MA office. This is an in-office leadership role providing service to the firm’s attorneys and staff, and reports to the Executive Director.
Position Summary
The IT Manager will be responsible for overseeing technical and administrative IT functions, infrastructure, cloud and on-premises systems, licensing, information security, networking, the end user customer experience, and managing (1) Level 1 direct report. Leadership, accountability, and mentorship are key requirements of this position.
The IT Manager will coordinate with external third-party vendors within managed services or project-based coverage areas or needs. The individual in this position must be hands-on highly technical and able to lead based on practical experience and a history of demonstrable technical aptitude achieved at prior employers.
This position is for someone who has led IT service delivery within an organization before, and understands ticketing, problem & incident management, change control, and the pillars of an ITSM/ITIL model. This position will also require excellent documentation and customer service capabilities, with a commitment to timelines and delivering repeatable excellence each day. Expertise in enterprise best practices is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identifies, responds, and resolves IT related issues, incidents, or requests, with a commitment to timeliness & customer service.
- Collaborates with members of the executive team to identify ways to assist the Firm in achieving business and financial goals. Understands and aligns with a culture of risk reduction.
- Manages and oversees all technology and software applications, to include backup and disaster recovery environments.
- Ensures that IT and network infrastructure adequately support the Firm’s computing, data processing, and communications needs within a high availability model for continuous 24/7 operations.
- Participates in training, audits, system readiness tests, and assists the firm in maintaining its compliance obligations.
- Communicates goals, projects, and timelines of the Firm and plans ways to execute those goals within the department.
- Assists as the top contact for end users and resolves technology issues as needed.
Technical Responsibilities
- Guides the firm’s implementation and responsible use of AI-enabled features in legal and productivity software
- Advises and oversees selection and migration to new billing and practice-management systems
- Assesses client IT requirements
- Experience working with enterprise infrastructure and modern networking technology, to include switches, firewalls, circuits, and access points.
- Plans, designs, implements, and supports various Microsoft cloud technologies.
- Maintains and monitors the use of the document management system.
- Supports and maintains Microsoft 365 for email, messaging, Office, endpoint management products, MFA and other applications.
- Assists with answering escalated Service Desk requests and handles general hardware and software issues on end user systems.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned, some of which may be essential to the position.
Hours and Locations of Work
- Boston, MA.
- Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM, with availability for later or early daily hours and weekends for traveling or maintenance tasks.
- Position will share on-call responsibilities for assistance or in emergency scenarios.
- Periodic travel to other M&P regional locations as needed, within a 1–2.5-hour radius.
Required Baseline Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Extensive experience in Microsoft cloud technology is required, certification is preferred.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, Network+, Security+, PMP or in Microsoft Azure are highly desirable.
- Prior law-firm or professional-services experience preferred.
- Knowledge of AI-enhanced productivity tools and emerging legal-tech trends preferred.
At least 5-10 years of experience in administration of information systems and technology, with a progressive trend in responsibilities during which the following experience would have been obtained:
Knowledge
- Extensive experience with computers and software applications including Office 365.
- Experience in Local and Wide Area Networks and computer peripherals.
- Document management and the underlying workflows.

Physical Demands and Conditions Requirements
- General office environment, sitting and viewing computer monitors for extended periods.
