Our client is a Connecticut-based legal firm with multiple offices across the state (Waterbury, Hartford, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Danbury, New Haven) dedicated to serving clients in immigration, personal injury, and workers’ compensation matters. They established over a decade ago. The firm emphasizes personalized attention, bilingual staff (English, Spanish, Portuguese), and a boutique-style approach—making sure clients aren’t treated like “just a number.” Their immigration practice covers family-based visas, green cards, deportation defense, asylum, naturalization, and related matters, with an emphasis on guiding clients clearly through complicated processes.
Position Summary
The Immigration Paralegal will support our immigration attorneys by managing case-flow, preparing and filing petitions, and maintaining client communication throughout the immigration process. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized professional who can handle multiple cases, meet deadlines, and interact compassionately with clients.
Key Responsibilities Conduct client intake: gather required documents, interview clients, and compile case information Prepare and file immigration petitions and applications (e.g., family-based, employment-based, naturalization, adjustment of status, non-immigrant visas) Draft client checklists, correspondence, affidavits, and other legal documents under attorney supervision Manage case calendar: track deadlines, follow up on case status, and update clients on progress Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy case files and enter data into the case management system Communicate with clients, government agencies, and external stakeholders to gather required materials and resolve queries Research immigration laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as required Assist attorneys with case strategy, hearings, and client meetings as needed Ensure compliance with firm policies, deadlines and quality standards
Required Qualifications & Skills Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) Previous work experience (typically 1-2 years) in immigration law or legal support role preferred Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases concurrently Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfort interacting with clients, attorneys and agencies Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and experience with case management software is a plus Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain confidentiality Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or another language) Familiarity with common immigration forms (I-130, I-485, H-1B, PERM, etc.) and government agencies such as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), U.S. Department of State (DOS) Experience using immigration case-management software (e.g., LawLogix, INSZoom) Prior involvement in business immigration or humanitarian immigration cases
