The Deputy Sheriff plays a vital role in maintaining law and order within the community. This position involves enforcing laws, conducting investigations, and providing assistance to the public. The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for ensuring public safety, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to uphold justice. Must be 21 YOA or older.
Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License and Kansas Law Enforcement Officer Certification from KLETC. Maintain firearm qualification as required throughout employment.
Background and Drug/Alcohol Checks
Comprehensive background checks, along with physical agility tests, drug and alcohol screenings, and mental assessments, will be performed during the hiring process. Given that this is a safety-sensitive position, ongoing random background checks and drug/alcohol tests will also be carried out.
Duties
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws while maintaining peace and order within the community.
- Conduct criminal investigations, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports on incidents.
- Respond to emergency calls and provide first aid and CPR when necessary.
- Monitor surveillance systems to detect suspicious activities and potential threats.
- Manage conflicts effectively, utilizing conflict management techniques to de-escalate situations.
- Provide assistance in animal handling and care during incidents involving animals.
- Collaborate with military personnel when necessary for specialized operations or support.
- Engage in loss prevention strategies to protect property and prevent crime.
- Maintain proficiency in driving skills required for patrolling and responding to incidents.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
- Proficiency in report writing to document incidents clearly and accurately.
- Ability to perform first aid and CPR effectively in emergency situations.
- Experience in criminal investigation techniques for gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
- Leadership skills to guide team members during operations or community outreach programs.
- Familiarity with immigration law as it pertains to law enforcement duties.
- Competence in surveillance techniques for monitoring public spaces and identifying potential threats.
- Effective conflict management skills to resolve disputes peacefully.
