Now in our 13th year of service, New England Justice for Our Neighbors (New England JFON) is a non-profit organization providing free, expert legal services to Massachusetts immigrants seeking humanitarian-based visas. Our clients include asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and victims of violence.
Position Summary
New England JFON seeks an experienced Operations Manager to join our small team. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will play an important role in several areas, including Marketing/Communications, Compliance, Financial Operations, Human Resources, Clinic Operations, and Special Projects. The Operations Manager will also research and implement new technology/tools, assist with reporting of various types, and keep our remote organization digitally organized. New England Justice for Our Neighbors is a growing and changing organization. The person filling this new role will carry out a wide range of tasks and will have significant impact on our success during this exciting phase.
The Operations Manager position is a mostly-remote role with a large amount of flexibility, and will start at 20-30 hours per week, with a likelihood of moving to full-time if desired. It may be a good fit for someone with caregiver, academic, or other responsibilities who is looking for meaningful hybrid/remote work. The Operations Manager will be expected to attend in-person meetings on occasion, perhaps 2 - 4 times per month, and to run occasional errands.
Qualifications
Required:
- At least 3 years of experience in administration or operations, in any setting
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Experience with using data to support nonprofit operations
- Be highly organized and self-motivated, with exceptional attention to details
- Comfort with working with online tools
- Ability to function well in a changing environment with changing responsibilities.
- Exceptional personal integrity and a strong work ethic
- Continuous learning and self-improvement orientation
In addition, a successful candidate will have at least some of the following skills:
- Strong comfort level with Excel, able to perform basic calculations and analyses
- Experience with Google Docs and the Google Workspace
- Fluent spoken Spanish
- Experience with Canva
- Familiarity with basic nonprofit accounting
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Experience working in a remote environment
No immigration-related experience is necessary.
Candidates should live within a 30-minute drive of Newton Centre. New England JFON requires client-facing staff to receive annual COVID and flu vaccinations with the exception of those who have medical or religious beliefs exemptions. Employees must have access to personal transportation (mileage will be reimbursed) and to a work space suitable for carrying out computer tasks and remote meetings.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: $22 - $25 / hr depending on experience.
