Organization Overview

UnLocal, Inc. is a community-centered non-profit organization that provides direct immigration legal representation and community education to New York City’s immigrant communities. Our Legal team uses a comprehensive approach to advocacy, combining consultations, representation, training, and outreach to support impacted community members.

Position Summary

The Educational Initiatives and Youth Programs coordinator will develop and lead impactful initiatives by identifying the core needs and services of UnLocal clients and community members. They will oversee key partnerships, lead community and youth outreach efforts, respond to partner requests, and co-develop presentations of UnLocal’s legal and educational resources, prioritizing programs such as (but not limited to) the New York State Dream Act (NYSDA), Pro Se Plus Project (PSPP), and Community Connection Series (CCS).

The Educational Initiatives and Youth Programs coordinator will also provide direct support to individual clients with NYSDA services, resources for higher education, and early career and professional development. This role reports directly to the Senior Manager of Outreach and Community Education.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee major partnerships (e.g., ImmSchools, Internationals Network for Public Schools, NYCDOE District 79).
Assist students in applying for the New York State Dream Act & obtain financial aid for immigrant students
Manage deliverables for the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) New York State Dream Act contract, including presentations, individual application assistance, and direct reporting to MOIA.
Facilitate forums for collaboration and information-sharing across UnLocal’s partnerships (e.g., partner calls, tabling, community forums).
Support staff in receiving referrals for clients seeking educational opportunities, including GED/TASC, college applications, scholarships, and adult learning.
Supervise Education & Outreach Interns during fall and spring semesters, providing mentorship and project support for CCS, OHOA, CC, and SRH.
Collaborate with the Development Director to complete reporting and advocacy strategies.
Support the Development Team in identifying grant opportunities for youth programming.
Lead communication initiatives for the Student Resource Hub Newsletter (SRH) and support the POD Newsletter with the Communications Team.
Develop and execute accessible, community-centered programming that uplifts the needs of UnLocal clients and community members, including:
- Career Pair and Share: Safe space for undocumented youth to connect with professionals, with follow-up mentoring.
- Education Supply Drive: Provides UnLocal families with school supplies, addressing inequities in access.
- UnLocal Market: Creates a safe entrepreneurial space for immigrant vendors, particularly undocumented vendors.
- Immigrant Wellness Fair: Connects clients and community members with resources across NYC.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, community organizing, public administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Knowledge of higher education systems, particularly barriers faced by immigrant students.
Commitment to social justice and immigrant rights.
Experience in education, youth programs, or nonprofit program management.
Strong communication, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups and immigrant communities.
Fluency in English and [Spanish/other relevant language(s)] strongly preferred.
Flexible schedule, including the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Skills

Grant management experience.
Strong writing and communication skills for newsletters and presentations.
Experience supervising interns or volunteers.
Familiarity with immigrant communities and accessing higher education.
Able to manage time independently

Salary & Benefits:

Full-time position.
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000

This position primarily involves sedentary work, including extended periods of sitting, use of a computer, and communication via phone and video conferencing. Travel will be required for funder outreach or partner meetings. Position frequently moves items of up to 10 pounds across the office or into off-site locations.
