Position Summary:
Ellis Porter is seeking a Case Manager to join our PERM Labor Certification team where you will be part of a team of attorneys and case managers that help our global clients navigate the US immigration system. You will be responsible for guiding employers and employees through the complex PERM Labor Certification process, which is a required first step of the green card application process in certain green card categories. In this role, you will have the opportunity to help companies and their international employees achieve their strategic and professional goals - it's truly rewarding work.
This position can be fully remote from any U.S. location, or based in either our Troy, MI or Ann Arbor, MI office as an in-person or hybrid role. Please note - although this role can be remote, all work must be performed within the United States.
What you’ll do:
- Coordinate and track recruitment activities (newspaper ads, online postings, job orders, etc.), ensuring compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) regulations and capturing required documentation for the recruitment file.
- Communicate with HR contacts, employers, and employees to gather detailed job and candidate information, and clarify recruitment logistics.
- Maintain accurate and timely case files and recordkeeping, including prevailing wage requests, recruitment evidence, and correspondence with government agencies.
- Monitor case timelines and deadlines, proactively following up on pending items (prevailing wage determination, recruitment period completion, etc.).
- Prepare PERM recruitment summary reports and matrices for attorney review.
- Respond to basic inquiries from employers/employees about process steps, status updates, and required documentation (deferring legal advice to attorney as needed).
- Prepare drafts of PERM Labor Certification forms, including ETA 9089, for attorney review and signature.
- Organize documentation in response to DOL PERM audit requests, ensuring all evidence is compiled for attorney review and submission.
- Draft, format, and assemble cover letters, exhibits, and supporting materials for PERM filings.
- Maintain case management system records and update status/notes for all ongoing PERM cases.
- Provide administrative support including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and ensuring document retention in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What skills and experience you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 1+ years of experience working in the legal field, preferably within immigration as an Immigration Case Manager/Paralegal. Experience preparing PERM Labor Certification applications is a plus.
- High level of attention to detail and organization, emotional intelligence, and empathy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage a busy PERM Labor Certification caseload in an efficient manner and consistent with numerous inflexible legal deadlines.
- Experience utilizing legal systems (Ex. BlueDot, DOL FLAG, INSZoom, or similar in-house proprietary systems).
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive and calm professional attitude.
- Excellent client service skills, delivering highly responsive and proactive client service, including the ability to break down complex legal concepts into language that is easy for clients to understand.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally and effectively with team members.
- Passion for the immigration field.
