Chavez & Valko, LLP, a full-service immigration law firm, seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Removal Immigration Paralegal to join our dynamic immigration law team for its Dallas and Fort Worth, TX offices. The ideal candidate will support attorneys in managing removal (deportation) cases with some family-based immigration cases as needed, including preparing legal documents, conducting research, and working closely with clients throughout the removal process. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage removal cases from intake through resolution, including maintaining organized client files and tracking important deadlines.
- Draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, applications for relief from removal, and supporting affidavits under attorney supervision.
- Conduct legal research on immigration laws and policies to support client cases, including country condition research for asylum applications.
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide case updates, and offer translation support, if needed.
- Prepare case materials for court hearings, including exhibits, witness statements, and filings with immigration courts.
- Liaise with government agencies (USCIS, ICE, EOIR) regarding case status, filings, and requests for prosecutorial discretion or stays of removal.
- Assist with the preparation of appeals, motions to reopen, and requests for reconsideration for clients facing removal.
- Provide administrative support such as case calendaring, timekeeping, and maintaining accurate billing records.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in immigration law, specifically in removal defense or related areas.
- Strong understanding of immigration laws and procedures, particularly removal (deportation) processes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Strong communication and client service skills; experience working with diverse, multilingual clients is a plus.
- Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
