About the Position
An established immigration law firm is seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney to join our team. This position will be primarily based in our Edinburg, Texas office, with regular travel to San Antonio and other locations as needed for court appearances and firm business.
The attorney will work closely with our EOIR team and will have a strong focus on immigration court representation, removal defense, and related litigation.
We are looking for an attorney who is confident in the courtroom, highly organized, client-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of their cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) and Immigration Courts.
- Attend Master Calendar Hearings, Individual/Merits Hearings, bond hearings, and other immigration court proceedings.
- Handle removal-defense matters from case evaluation through resolution.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, applications, evidence, and other legal filings.
- Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and interviews.
- Review and analyze Notices to Appear (NTAs), court orders, government filings, and other case documents.
- Conduct legal research and develop case strategies.
- Work closely with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys to ensure cases remain organized and on track.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding case status, legal strategy, court dates, and expectations.
- Assist with detained and non-detained immigration matters.
- Participate in case strategy meetings and collaborate with the firm's EOIR team.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes, deadlines, and documentation.
- Stay current on changes to immigration law, EOIR procedures, USCIS policies, and relevant case law.
- Travel between Edinburg and San Antonio and to immigration court proceedings as required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law.
- Eligibility to practice before EOIR.
- Experience practicing immigration law.
- Strong knowledge of immigration court procedures and removal defense.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to independently manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel between Edinburg and San Antonio.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of immigration law experience.
- Prior experience handling EOIR cases and appearing in Immigration Court.
- Experience with Master Calendar and Individual/Merits Hearings.
- Experience with asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, waivers, VAWA, U visas, and other forms of immigration relief.
- Experience with detained immigration matters.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
- Experience working collaboratively with paralegals and legal support staff.
Compensation & Benefits
- $85,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
