Helen Tarokic Law PLLC is seeking an experienced Bilingual (Spanish/English) Immigration Intake (Consultation) Attorney to join our team in Wilmington, North Carolina. This position focuses on client consultations, intake, client education, and business development rather than managing an independent caseload.
This is a hybrid role designed for an attorney with prior immigration law experience who values both flexibility and in-person collaboration and who enjoys the complexity of immigration law consultations. This is not a contractor role. Consultation blocks typically are prescheduled for a 2-hour slot.
The position begins with a remote onboarding period. Following onboarding, the attorney will work with the firm on a relocation plan, with the expectation of relocating to the Wilmington, NC area within the first year of employment. Once relocated, the position is hybrid: a minimum of two days per week in-office, with three days remote (additional in-office time is welcome).
Our practice emphasizes humanitarian and family-based immigration work, including adjustment of status, naturalization, DACA, waivers, motions practice, and U/T visa matters. We do not handle detained removal defense or asylum court work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct complex client consultations, with particular emphasis on Spanish-language intake and follow-up.
- During the initial onboarding period, the attorney will shadow and scribe consultations with Helen Tarokic and other attorneys to learn the firm's consultation process before gradually transitioning to conducting consultations independently.
- Conduct post-consultation follow-up calls and emails with prospective clients, as needed.
- Coordinate referrals to outside attorneys when appropriate.
- Perform customer service check-ins with clients and referring attorneys approximately three months after hire.
- Consults involve a broad scope of immigration matters, including family-based immigration, adjustment of status (T/U/VAWA/SIJ/family-based), naturalization, DACA renewals, employment authorization and advance parole applications, I-130/I-751 petitions, waivers (I-601, I-601A, I-212), motions practice (motions to reopen, terminate), and occasional involvement in mandamus or appeal referrals or coordination with outside litigation counsel.
- Collaborate with remote support team members who prepare pre-consultation packets, conduct preliminary screenings, and provide drafting and documentation support.
- Participate in community outreach, including teaching or recording a monthly webinar; attending Latino Alliance or Hispanic/Latino Commission meetings or similar events; teaching a fundamental or advanced CLE class (the law firm sponsors CLE).
- Maintain accurate client communication and documentation within the firm’s customized CRM (Workbooks) and CMS (LawLogix) related to consultations and post-consultation steps.
- Participate in quarterly internal audits (approximately 4 hours, one Saturday per quarter).
- Attend internal or external CLE or outreach events (as scheduled).
- Assist with educational videos, webinars, social media content, and CLE presentations.
- Review and sign legal fee agreements (contracts) for legal services related to the proposed case plan; answer follow-up questions from potential clients (phone and/or in writing); and document/track non-engagement and referrals for cases the firm will not take.
