The Legal Technology Solutions & Innovation Manager will be responsible for maximizing the value of the firm’s technological investments and driving practical innovation across the firm. The role also serves as the firm’s primary internal resource for evaluating, piloting, and implementing AI-enabled legal technologies. This position sits at the intersection of legal practice, technology, and innovation. It helps ensure the firm fully leverages its platforms to support attorney productivity, collaboration, and client service. The role bridges attorneys, practice groups, and IT, ensuring the firm’s systems are configured and used in ways that match how lawyers work. This role focuses on legal workflows and on configuring and implementing technology, including AI tools, to better support legal services and will work with attorneys, practice groups, IT, vendors, and training to guide the firm's innovation strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of the legal industry, strong project management skills, and the ability to foster a culture of innovation within the firm.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to better leverage firm platforms.
- Improve configuration and adoption of existing systems.
- Lead implementation of new legal technology tools, including AI-enabled solutions.
- Project manage initiatives from concept through deployment.
- Translate attorney needs into practical solutions.
- Work with attorneys to identify and implement AI-assisted workflows for research, drafting, document analysis, and knowledge management.
- Perform all job duties according to safety policies, including maintaining a neat, organized, and safe work area and ensure adherence of department personnel to safety policies and procedures including promptly reporting any potential unsafe conditions and/or workplace accidents/injuries.
Legal Technology Optimization
- Assess how attorneys use firm systems and identify improvements to efficiency, collaboration, and document management.
- Partner with IT and vendors to improve configuration, workflows, integrations, and governance.
- Ensure the firm uses existing capabilities effectively, not only default vendor configurations.
Artificial Intelligence Strategy & Implementation
- Serve as the firm’s internal resource for AI-enabled legal technology, partnering with attorneys and practice groups to identify use cases.
- Evaluate AI tools for legal research, drafting, document analysis, knowledge management, and productivity.
- Develop practical AI-assisted workflows that improve productivity while maintaining appropriate standards and risk controls.
- Partner with IT and firm leadership to evaluate, pilot, and implement AI platforms.
- Coordinate pilots and testing, gather feedback, and refine workflows before broader rollout.
- Help develop guidelines and best practices for responsible AI use.
Attorney Engagement & Workflow Design
- Meet with attorneys and practice groups to understand where technology helps and where it falls short in daily work.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, document processes, knowledge. management, collaboration, and AI-assisted work.
- Translate attorney needs into clear technical requirements for IT and vendors.
- Advise attorneys on how to use technology more effectively.
Technology Implementation & Project Management
- Lead implementation of legal technology initiatives, including upgrades, new platform deployments, and AI solutions.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and rollout strategies with IT and firm leadership.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (attorneys, IT, training, and vendors) to deliver successful rollouts.
- Oversee pilots, testing, feedback, and deployment of new tools and capabilities.
- Ensure implementations align with attorney workflows and firm objectives.
Collaboration with IT and Training
- Partner with IT to configure, implement, and improve legal technology systems.
- Partner with the training team to deliver effective, workflow-based training for attorneys and staff.
- Act as liaison among attorneys, IT, and external vendors.
Technology Strategy & Innovation
- Monitor developments in legal technology, AI, and productivity tools relevant to law firms.
- Evaluate new tools and recommend solutions that improve efficiency, client service, and competitiveness.
- Identify opportunities where AI and automation can improve service delivery and internal workflows.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Track adoption and effectiveness of legal technology tools.
- Measure the impact of initiatives on lawyer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Provide periodic updates to firm leadership on utilization, initiatives, and improvement opportunities.
Required
- 5–8+ years of experience in the legal industry, legal technology, or legal operations.
- Strong understanding of law firm workflows and attorney work practices.
- Experience with legal technology platforms (e.g., document management, collaboration, workflow, or AI tools).
- Experience project managing technology implementations or process improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and practicing attorney.
Preferred
- Experience with iManage (or similar document management systems).
- Experience with Microsoft 365 (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Copilot, Power Automate).
- Experience evaluating or implementing AI solutions in legal environments.
- JD, legal operations background, or law firm practice experience.
- Certification in project management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or similar frameworks.
