Associate Attorney – Spanish-Speaking Preferred But Not Required

About the Role:
Mecham Law Firm is a boutique immigration law firm located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with a stellar reputation and a strong history of success. We are seeking a licensed attorney to join our growing team in Gulfport.
This position will focus primarily on domestic and family-law matters in Mississippi Chancery Court, including custody, divorce, guardianship, legitimation, and related proceedings, many of which involve immigrant families. Experience in Mississippi Chancery Court is strongly preferred.
The role will also require representation of clients before the Department of Justice (EOIR/Immigration Court) and the Department of Homeland Security, handling a broad range of immigration matters. Some cases will run alongside chancery proceedings, while others will be independent federal matters.
Immigration law is a fast-moving, highly impactful, and exceptionally valuable practice area to learn, offering hands-on advocacy, frequent court exposure, and the opportunity to make an immediate and meaningful difference in clients’ lives. While prior immigration experience is preferred, it is not required. We are seeking a dedicated legal professional with strong advocacy skills, a willingness to learn, and a genuine commitment to serving immigrant communities and advancing justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as primary counsel for clients in matters before Mississippi Chancery Courts, Immigration Court (EOIR), and the Department of Homeland Security
- Conduct in-depth client consultations and develop case strategy across state and federal proceedings
- Prepare, file, and argue motions, briefs, and pleadings in contested matters
- Maintain ownership of a substantive, litigation-forward caseload, including:
Removal defense before Immigration Court
Family-based immigration matters, including Adjustment of Status
Humanitarian immigration relief, including Asylum, VAWA, U-Visa, T-Visa, TPS, Parole, and Cuban Adjustment Act cases
Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) cases, including custody, guardianship, legitimation, and related chancery proceedings in Mississippi state court
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in Mississippi Chancery Court, immigration court, or other litigation-intensive practice areas
- Comfort appearing in court, handling evidentiary issues, and advocating on the record
- Familiarity with humanitarian immigration filings and procedures, or the ability to quickly develop proficiency
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills and sound professional judgment
