Montrose County is seeking a dedicated Assistant County Attorney – Human Services, to join our legal team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the Department of Human Services by providing legal representation in child welfare, child support enforcement, adult protection, and related cases. The role also includes advising Human Services staff, training caseworkers, preparing and litigating hearings and trials, and handling appeals in state courts.
What You’ll Do

Represent the County in dependency and neglect, child support, and adult protection cases.

Draft motions, pleadings, and appellate briefs; research legal issues; and prepare cases for hearings and trials.

Provide daily legal advice and guidance to Human Services staff.

Train caseworkers on Colorado Children’s Code, dependency and neglect, and delinquency procedures.

Assist the County Attorney’s Office with additional matters such as contracts, land use, employment, and civil litigation as assigned.

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Licensed to practice law in Colorado (or eligible for Colorado licensure).

Minimum two (2) years of legal practice preferred; public entity experience a plus.

Strong litigation, negotiation, and legal research skills.
