Summary
ACQC seeks a full-time experienced Immigration Staff Attorney with substantial immigration experience to provide direct representation to immigration clients and supervision to two community navigators. This Individual must have experience in representing clients in immigration court and be able to independently handle immigration matters from intake through resolution. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational & time-management skills.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage a caseload, provide brief advice and pro se application assistance to clients under limited scope agreements.
- Supervise and conduct intake of clients, screening and eligibility determination and provide legal referrals to outside legal service providers. Must be able to provide comprehensive legal screenings to find out if a client qualifies for any immigration benefit.
- Draft legal informational materials for Know Your Rights presentations and conduct Know Your Rights presentations.
- Participate in all MOIA and ACQC’s trainings and meetings.
- Must have experience in providing legal representation and assistance for a range of cases, including:
- Citizenship
- Green card applications and renewals
- Asylum
- Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and more
- Assistance in filling out immigration forms
- Deportation and removal
Requirements
- Admission to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction in good standing, preferably NYS
- Minimum 3 years’ immigration law experience.
- Fluency to communicate in English and Spanish.
- Client-centered approach to representation.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Must have excellent research, writing, advocacy and organizational skills.
- Motivated to represent a diverse clientele. Must be able to convey sensitivity and non-judgement in all communications.
The immigration Attorney is a full-time, exempt position based in Jamaica Queens.
