Job Description
Serves as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the UF sponsored J Exchange Visitor Program within the Exchange Visitor Services unit (EVS). Provides J visa immigration advising for participants and campus users of the J program. The UF sponsored J program consists of several categories: Short-Term Scholar, Research Scholar, Professor, Student Intern, Degree Seeking Student and Non-Degree Degree Student. This includes but is not limited to working closely with sponsoring UF departments, hosting UF faculty sponsors, as well as incoming and current J visa holders. Coordinates with UF host departments on the initial applications for Form DS-2019, production of Form DS-2019, as well as a variety of amendment documents. Audits degree-seeking students class registrations to ensure compliance with federal immigration requirements.
Training, advising, and adhering to regulations from a variety of federal entities governing the J program including but not limited to the U.S. Department of State (DoS), Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CPB). Reviews and evaluate petitions for J1 and J2 statutes that are submitted to the agencies aforementioned for adjudication. Manage the SEVIS alerts list to ensure visitors have timely completed their check-in.
Create and Implement training materials for stakeholders both in online, written, and in-person formats. Along with the Director of Exchange Student Services, develop and implement internal policies and procedures to facilitate and streamline the process and procedure of the Exchange Visitor Service unit.
Supervise and onboard, and train Immigration Specialist I, and EVS student workers.
Create and compile all necessary reports for the Exchange Visitor unit, within the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), Terradotta, Homebase, English3, and other platforms. Oversight of the Exchange Visitor Services unit’s website, and Standard Operating Procedures. With final approval from Director of Exchange Visitor Services.
Be the point of contact for emergencies and general questions in the absence of the EVS unit director.
Collaborates with core offices on campus, such as the UF Counseling and Wellness Center, the Student Healthcare Center, Payroll and Tax Services, Bursar’s and Registrar’s Office, as well as services off campus such as the local Social Security Administration office and the Driver’s License Bureau. Use of Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar). Coordinates the efforts to support our stakeholders during the tax filing season, liaising with Sprintax and the Assistant Director for International Student Support. This process includes our J1/J2 visitors, UWC students, and F1 visa holders. Assists our J1/J2, UWC (United World College), and F1 visa holders in applying for ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number) with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Expected Salary
$65,000 - $70,000 annually

Preferred
- Master’s degree and six years’ with listed J visa categories; detailed knowledge of J visa regulations required
