POSITION SUMMARY: The Immigration Specialist Representative is responsible for p roviding information, advice, counsel, and representation to individuals with matters pending before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). Assist in outreach and education to immigrant and refugee community in Oregon. Assist in the functions of Safe Route Immigration.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with individuals with immigration matters
- If not already DOJ Accredited, complete accreditation training and credentialing in a reasonable time established by Safe Route Director and Program Coordinator.
- Provide information and advocacy to clients regarding applications for adjustment of status, family reunification, other immigration forms, and immigration processing.
- Act as advocate for client’s needs with other immigration service providers, attorneys, foreign consulates/embassies, and other government offices
- Schedule client appointments and maintain ongoing caseload in collaboration with Immigration Specialist and Program Coordinator
- Assist client with fingerprint and photo services
- Provide the representation in person during the immigration interviews
- Assist clients with correspondence to Immigration Services and other relevant agencies
- Serve as a representative of the agency and program through community outreach and education to refugee and immigrant communities across the state to inform them of their legal rights and to discuss issues of concern
- Support US Citizenship preparation classes, applicants, and initiatives
- Model and encourage direct, professional communication among staff members and facilitate development of a positive staff support network
- Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Attend all-staff meetings, other meetings, and trainings as requested by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
JOB COMPLEXITY: This position is not responsible for development and/or decisions regarding new policy or guidelines or the administration of budgets. Work is done in a very busy office setting and in the community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY : May be asked to direct the activities of interns, volunteers, or Immigration Specialist.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: This position involves interaction with other staff members, volunteers, and clients from diverse populations. This will require courtesy and confidentiality at all times.

- Have or able to obtain knowledge of USCIS processes and eligibility requirements for immigrations benefits including naturalization, permanent residency, DACA, employment authorization, etc.

- Have respectful, open, unbiased, and accepting attitude toward clients and their families

- Familiarity with standard office procedures and basic knowledge of office equipment (printer, photocopy, fax, scanner, phone, etc.)
- Must be able to work well under pressure and in a multicultural setting
- Requires strict adherence of HIPAA standards in the office workspace to ensure client confidentiality
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent experience required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, and understand directions. Must have the ability to write memos and other basic correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, clients, and the general public. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
