Overview
The Barbara J. Hart Justice Center, a Project of WRC, has an immediate need for a Staff Attorney. The qualified attorney will represent survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence in family law, immigration, housing, and consumer debt matters in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties, Pennsylvania. Candidates must be licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates must also be self-starters with the ability to work individually and in teams. The Justice Center provides a great and challenging opportunity for attorneys to develop litigation skills and expertise in the field of domestic violence and family law. Duties
- Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis to support case preparation and strategy development.
- Draft and review legal documents, pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Represent clients in court proceedings as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of case files and manage the legal administrative tasks associated with ongoing cases.
- Collaborate with other attorneys and staff within the law office to ensure comprehensive client service.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact clients or case strategies.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Proven experience in legal research, writing, and drafting documents.
- Familiarity with family law is preferred but nit necessary.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in using legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis.
