The Office of International Services is seeking an Immigration Specialist for the student team.

This position services as immigration advisor for students in F and J status, providing accurate information and guidance, and processing applicable casework. Serves as liaison between the University and government agencies and as a resource for the University. Works closely with administrative contacts in departments across campus to ensure compliance for both the students and the University.

Essential Functions

Communicates with international students in F and J status via email, in-person meetings, online meetings, and presentations to provide information and resources so that students can maintain legal status in the US.
Coordinates with faculty, staff, employees, and students throughout the University in facilitating and maintaining lawful immigration status.
Ensures compliance with immigration/visa rules and regulations by educating faculty and department administrators on the unique limitations of international students.
Serves as resource for all University members and affiliates regarding visa matters. Answers non-routine and complex immigration/visa related questions and assists in resolving issues.
Maintains relationships with government agencies, sponsoring organizations, and foreign embassies to facilitate visa documentation and employment authorization for foreign students.
Maintains accurate records in University systems (e.g. Peoplesoft, Sunapsis) as well as SEVIS.
Compiles information and prepares various reports and analyses establishing progress, describing adverse trends, and stating recommendations and/or conclusions. Prepares required reports on foreign students and employees for various government agencies.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
