Job Summary

The Immigration Coordinator is responsible for maintaining immigration records, improving record management systems, and helping immigrants adjust to the campus. This position help manage documents and go through the proper channels to maintain their visa. The Immigration Coordinator advises and assists international students and scholars regarding cross-cultural, financial, academic, and immigration issues/concerns. The role of this position involves performing a variety of duties centered on new case initiations based upon client requests.

Essential Job Duties

Serve as Principal Designated Officer (PDO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in SEVIS to maintain federal regulatory compliance and prepare paperwork necessary for international faculty and students to obtain H-1B, F-1, and J-1 visa status, on campus work approvals, and optional practical training
Maintain accurate records and tracking information for each student, which includes I-20, I-539, I-94, and other pertinent information required by the department of Homeland Security
Advise international students on tax compliance, procedures for obtaining security cards and driver’s license
Provide educational sessions/or updates on immigrations procedures/laws pertaining to international student populations
Organize and coordinate orientation for incoming international and exchange students
Develop new programs and/or enhances the effectiveness of the international students programs for the broader integration of international students within the Tuskegee community (International Education Week, Mentoring Programming, Thanksgiving, etc.)
Serve as liaison to the Office of Enrollment Management, Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs, and Devlopment to provides services for International Students
Monitor budget and expenditures and prepares periodic reports
General administrative support for entire department including check requests, requisitions, purchase orders, scheduling conferences, aintaing office supplies and equipment
Make arrangements for internation visitors and scholars
Serve as first point of contact for department
Welcome students, faculty, staff, and visitors
Answer general inquires, and answer and direct calls
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)

Bachelor’s degree
At least two years of experience with Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and international student services in an academic setting
Must meet qualifications of Department of Homeland Security’s qualifications for the appointment as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)

Physical Demands

Prolonged sitting and standing: requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods
Repetitive motions: typing or answering phone, which may involve the wrists, hands, and fingers
The ability to prepare and analyze data and figures
Occasional lifting
Occasional travel may be required for meetings or conferences

Federal regulations related to international students of cross-cultural communications, and of personal and academic counseling
Immigration laws, procedures, and guidelines is essential for guiding individuals through the immigration process
