WHO WE ARE

Born out of the legal efforts at JFK Airport during the Muslim Ban, Immigrant ARC has been growing exponentially since spinning out as a stand-alone non-profit over three years ago. During that time, we have been on the frontlines of responding to the Afghan evacuation, the reception of Ukrainian refugees, and welcoming recently arrived immigrants to New York City and New York State, all while strengthening and growing the immigration legal services field to increase immigrant New Yorker’s access to counsel and access to justice.

Our community includes over 80 legal service providers in New York State. We come together in solidarity with all New Yorkers who believe in fair and just immigration policies and who share our collective outrage at the injustices confronting immigrant communities. We use our knowledge of immigration law and practice to empower each other and the communities we serve to collectively fight systemic oppression and seek respect and dignity for all. WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Senior Manager of Legal Technical Mentorship will play a critical role in implementing I-ARC’s Legal Technical Mentorship (LTM) program in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA). This role’s primary responsibility will be to provide oversight and leadership for the program, ensuring that the mentorship, training, and technical assistance needs of all MOIA Legal Service Centers (LSCs) are met.

The Senior Manager of Legal Technical Mentorship will supervise two direct reports—the Asian Pacific Islander Fellow and the Legal Technical Mentorship Manager and coordinate closely with attorneys at partner organizations to ensure seamless collaboration across the program.

NOTE: This is a city contract-funded position with an initial term of one year. Renewal is contingent upon continued funding and organizational need, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years.

Specifically, the Senior Manager of Legal Technical Mentorship will:

Lead Program Implementation: Oversee the day-to-day management and strategic direction of the MOIA Legal Technical Assistance (LTA) program, ensuring it aligns with the goals and objectives of MOIA and I-ARC. Coordinate all mentorship, training, and technical assistance for LSCs.
Supervise Legal Technical Mentorship Manager: Provide direct supervision to the Legal Technical Mentorship Manager, ensuring that programmatic goals are met and that the manager effectively supports the needs of LSCs.
Collaborate with Partner Attorneys: Work closely with attorneys at partner organizations to coordinate training and technical assistance related to specific topics. Ensure that LSC staff receive the support they need to navigate complex legal cases.
Coordinate Training & Technical Assistance: Design and implement training sessions, workshops, and webinars tailored to the needs of LSC staff, covering topics such as asylum law, removal defense, family-based petitions, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), and other key areas of immigration law. Facilitate one-on-one mentorship, resource-sharing, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities for LSC attorneys and accredited representatives.
Develop & Track Individualized Support Plans: Collaborate with MOIA and each LSC to create and track progress on Individualized Support & Development Plans, setting specific goals and milestones for legal service provision and organizational capacity building.
Strengthen Program Infrastructure: Work to improve the systems and infrastructure supporting the LTA program, including data collection, reporting, and resource-sharing platforms. Ensure that LSCs have access to tools, templates, and legal guides necessary to provide high-quality immigration services.
Monitor Program Outcomes: Track program metrics, evaluate outcomes, and report on progress to I-ARC leadership and MOIA. Adjust program strategies as needed to meet evolving community needs and LSC capacity.

WHO YOU ARE

An Experienced Immigration Legal Advocate: You have at least 5-7 years of experience practicing immigration law, with a strong background in humanitarian relief, removal defense, family-based petitions, and other key areas. Experience with cases at the intersection of immigration and criminal law is a plus.
A Proven Leader and Mentor: You have experience supervising legal staff and managing complex projects or programs. You are passionate about mentoring other attorneys and are skilled at providing constructive feedback and support.
A Skilled Collaborator: You are able to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including partner organizations, government agencies, and community-based organizations. You are comfortable working in close coordination with a team and can lead collaborative initiatives with multiple partners.
A Strategic Thinker: You are able to anticipate the evolving needs of LSCs and the immigrant communities they serve. You are adept at designing and implementing responsive and innovative solutions to complex legal and operational challenges.
Committed to Equity & Access: You are dedicated to ensuring that all immigrant New Yorkers, particularly low-income individuals with limited English proficiency, have access to high-quality legal representation. You prioritize a client-centered approach and are committed to addressing the racial and systemic inequalities faced by immigrant communities.

I-ARC aims to be as transparent and equitable as possible when discussing salaries. Ranges are determined and offers are made based on an existing compensation plan that is regularly updated after market research is performed and funding prospects are assessed. Our compensation philosophy, key performance metrics required at each position level, and organizational budget with salary lines are made available to all staff.

Employment Type & Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (salaried)

Wage: $85,000 annual salary*

Experience: JD (Juris Doctor) and active New York law license required. A minimum of five (5) years practicing immigration law, particularly cases intersecting with criminal law, is a plus. Experience providing legal mentorship or supervising staff is required. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and manage program oversight or day-to-day operations is highly desirable.

As this position is funded through a city contract, starting salaries are set in advance according to the terms of the contract and are non-negotiable.
